Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What steps do I follow immediately following an accident?

  • If you or anyone involved in the accident has been injured, immediately call 911
  • Take a deep breath and start collecting the following information:
    • Details of when and where the accident occurred
    • Names including contact information, vehicle license plate numbers, driver’s license numbers, insurance company names, and the insurance policy numbers of all parties involved in the accident. TIP – use your smartphone to take photos of the driver’s license, license plates and insurance papers of the parties involved in the accident
    • Take pictures of the vehicle and the relevant damaged areas
    • Names and contact information of any witnesses
  • Contact your insurer to make a claim
    • For ICBC claims call Dial-A-Claim at 1-800-910-4222 or report the claim online by going to http://www.icbc.com/claims/Pages/Report-a-claim-online.aspx
    • For private insurance claims, call the relevant insurer to report your claim
  • Once you have a claim number, call Ritchie Collision and our courteous and professional staff will efficiently guide you through the repair process

Q2. Do I need to book an appointment for an estimate before I can have my vehicle repaired?

If you have received a claim number from your insurance company, it is not necessary to book a time for an estimate. Simply schedule a time with Ritchie to drop off your vehicle; we will put you in a replacement vehicle and begin the repair process. In situations where you are thinking of paying for your repairs privately, we would be happy to schedule a time for you come in for a preliminary estimate of repairs.

Q3. Does your shop have a replacement vehicle that I can drive while my vehicle is getting repaired?

Yes. All qualified customers will either be given a vehicle from our fleet, or arrangements for a rental vehicle will be made, at no cost to the customer.

Q4. How long will it take to complete the repairs on my vehicle?

This will all depend on the extent of the damage, as well as the availability of parts. When you drop off your vehicle to be repaired, we will provide you with an estimated timeline to complete the repairs. Then, throughout the repair process, we will keep you updated regarding the timeline so that you may plan accordingly.

Q5. Will I have to pay a deductible to complete the repairs to my vehicle?

That depends. If you are at fault, or are making a comprehensive claim, you will be required by your insurance company to pay the deductible stated in your insurance policy. If you are in a collision and are not at fault, your deductible will be waived by the insurance company. In some cases, even if you are not at fault, you may still be required to pay the deductible until such time that your insurance company determines liability at which point if you are still found to be not at fault your deductible will be reimbursed by your insurance company.

Q6. Is Ritchie an ICBC accredited repair facility?

Yes, we are an ICBC c.a.r. shop VALET facility and certified through ICBC to repair your vehicle.

Q7. Can Ritchie complete repairs for private insurance claims?

Absolutely, Ritchie is qualified to accept all insurance claims, private included.

Q8. Is the factory warranty on my vehicle affected if I fix my vehicle at Ritchie rather than the dealership?

Not at all. Auto body repairs completed by Ritchie will not affect the manufacturer warranty. Our technicians are as or more qualified than dealership technicians.

Q9. I am visiting North Vancouver from out of province and have been in an accident. Can Ritchie process my insurance claim
and complete the repairs on my vehicle?

Yes, we can process any insurance claim from any insurance company located in North America.

Q10. Can I wash my newly painted vehicle?

We recommend that you only wash your vehicle by hand with mild soap, water and a very soft cloth for at least the first two months after your vehicle has been painted. Preferably you use only a touchless car wash during this period. It is not recommended that you use any brushes or anything potentially abrasive, nor apply any wax or sealant during this period.

Q11. What if I have a problem with my repairs?

Please see Ritchie’s Lifetime Guarantee.
